Just a quick opinion. Would it be a possibility that: As people are “cautious” about safety, they avoided many “dangers and risks”, which leads to a result of “safer city”?

I lived in CHCH for my whole life. There is a definite tension in the air especially around the central city from individuals or groups who have nothing better to do than intimidate other people.

The Central City area of Chch has really degenerated over the past 10 years or so - perhaps because people have migrated to all the malls that have sprung up in the suburbs. Most locals don’t go there much any more, it’s a mix of tourists and dodgy locals during the day, drunks, boy racers and wannabe hard men at night.

There’s no love in Christchurch anymore! I’ve lived here for about 10 years now and it seemes to be getting worse every year... If we’re out for a drink on the weekend we always make sure there’s at least a couple of us to walk to the next bar - especially around cashel mall. Why can’t we all just get along!

Maybe there are hundreds of incidences that have gone unreported. Christchurch is a beautiful city and it’s a shame the small minority have to ruin it for the majority.
